Bali (Paradiso) – Acclaimed Bali-based Japanese ceramic artist Tomoko Konno is the latest celebrated addition to award-winning Conrad Bali‟s Living Lobby Art Exhibition 2014 series with her work on show from 13 June to 28 August.
Recognized internationally for the signature intricacy, symmetry and attention to detail in her ceramics, Ms Konno is the fourth showcasing in the luxury hotel‟s series of eight monthly exhibitions at the new Living Lobby Art space.
Conrad Bali general manager Jean-Sébastien Kling said: “The series is a celebration of Bali‟s most exciting emerging artists and those who have established themselves as masters, and, in our 10th year of operation, we are delighted to provide a platform for locally-based artists to shine further. These exhibitions capture Bali‟s rich, unique culture, and Conrad Bali prides itself on connecting guests to the authentic Bali.”
Konno has won numerous awards for creating mostly sculptural works that have a naturalistic, otherworldly and futuristic sensibility. She was drawn to Living Lobby Art by the open space and connection to the natural environment.
Konno said Her „Sway‟ exhibition, created in Jenggala‟s ceramics studio, “draws on Bali and its culture through my newly formed bond with the island, a stark contrast with Japan and other countries where I have lived. I see these beautiful objects as creatures conceived from a visceral response to the environment”. Mrs Konno‟s exhibition follows popular shows by sculpture I Wayan Jana, multimedia artist I Nyoman Suarnata and painter Lekung Sugantika.
