DENPASAR, PARADISO INDONESIA – The MUMULAND Festival will be held at Rumah Tanjung Bungkak, Denpasar on Friday, August 23, 2024. There will be 23 activities and more than 100 artists who will enliven this festival and are guaranteed to have never been done before in Bali.
The MUMULAND Festival is a Land of Ancient Mystery, Art, Music, Dance, Technology, Sculpture, Horse Archery and Fire that has never been seen before in Bali.
More than 100 Indonesian artists will be involved in this festival and let’s make it a success. MUMULAND is a non-profit non-commercial organization and this is our chance to support the artists involved.
The festival will be open from 10 am to late at night. This event promises a unique and inspiring experience featuring various elements of art, fire and music that revive the legendary legacy of The KLF, the #1 British band in the 90s with over 6 million record sales.
Highlights of the MUMULAND Festival include:
1) Body Space (10am – 5pm)
MUMULAND is ideal for families and children of all ages. There will be entertainment, arts and dance workshops throughout the day including Horse Riding, Archery, Treasure Hunt (First Prize is a Gold Coin!), Disco Football (not to be missed!) and Beer Pong Competition (as featured in the 2022 film “Ticket to Paradise”). There will also be a Kids Dance Workshop and Kids DJ Contest and the chance to perform on the main stage!
2) Energy Space (3pm – 5pm)
MUMULAND will also pay homage to the Balinese values of WALA, BEBALI and BALI BALIHAN with groups coming from remote villages across Bali to perform Legong, Gamelan and Barong, many of whom have never been to Denpasar before!
3) Heart Space (17:00 – 19:00)
As the sun sets, MUMULAND will become Heart Space with blessings from 3 Pedanda and 20 Mangku (23) and a beautiful Sound Healing session from Agustian, Yoga Barn, Ubud. Moreover, there will be an Avant-Garde music and light show by Putu Septa and Sraya who just returned from their California tour!
4) Rave Space (19:00 until late)
The festival will be even more lively from 7 pm until late with a Livestream performance from Pangkor Sagu Dancers from Timika, Papua.
At 8 pm MUMULAND will be transformed into a replica of the early 1990s Rave Warehouse starting with Ecstatic Dance from Hoda Fadel followed by a great line-up of 3 DJs, Rap, Death Metal, Drag Queen and GoGo dancers and many more.
As is known, MUMULAND is a theater performance that evokes the mystery of Ancient Sundaland. MUMULAND/Sundaland was an ancient civilisation that sank beneath the waves at the end of the last Ice Age. Its remains remain throughout Indonesia including Mount Padang near Bandung. MUMULAND evokes the spirit of Ancient Sundaland, described by some archaeologists as the true location of the lost continent of MU.
MUMULAND was also inspired by the 1991 #1 hit in the UK & USA Singles Charts by UK House Band The KLF (also known as the Justified Ancients of Mumu).
What is the KLF?
If you are between the ages of 45 and 65, you will almost certainly remember the KLF.
The KLF (Kopyrite Liberation Front) aka The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, are art icons who have left a lasting mark on the world of music and visual art. The K-Foundation continues to surprise audiences with their bold and subversive art statements, and have collaborated with Banksy on many projects including the dystopian project known as Dismaland in 2015.
They are the world’s best-selling singles band. They had the credit, the credibility, the commercial success and the creative freedom.
They wiped their records, erased themselves from musical history and burned their last million pounds on a houseboat on Jura Island.
At MUMULAND Festival, attendees can hear the mysterious and creative chaos that the KLF created, and understand how their bold and controversial actions have influenced contemporary art both globally and in Bali.
The MUMULAND Krew (also known as The KLF Re-enactment Society) is working with KLFRS Krews in Papua and around the world to ensure Bali is represented at the Global Livestreamed event on 23 August 2024, which was staged by the KLF exactly 30 years ago.
Throughout the day, documentaries will be screened, taking viewers on an immersive journey into the history and legacy of MUMULAND, the KLF and the Bali KLFRS Team, all known for their controversial media stunts and philosophy of chaos magic.
The KLF Reenactment Society (Bali Chapter) is part of a global movement dedicated to promoting the K Foundation, an arts foundation founded by the KLF.
